History

At the beginning, Mahasarakham University had set forth the Educational Development Plan in B.E.2543 to draft the curriculum for Bachelor of Arts Program. On 26th April, B.E. 2544, the draft curriculum in Bachelor of Arts in Tourism and Hotel Management was approved by Mahasarakham University Council and implemented under the guidance of the Tourism and Hotel Management Project authority. The temporary office of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management at that time was located on the 4th floor of the President Office, Borom Raj Kumari Building before moving to the 5th floor of Raj Nakarin Building.

The first intake of students was admitted through a special quota in June of the academic year B.E. 2544. Later in July B.E. 2544, the established project of Tourism and Hotel Management’s name was officially changed to the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management.

On 1st October B.E.2547 Mahasarakham University Council was in agreement for declaration of the status changing into an internationally certified operation of Tourism and Hotel Management Faculty. Presently, the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management offers courses pertaining to Bachelor of Arts in Tourism and Hotel Management along with the International Program, Master of Arts in Tourism and Hotel Management and Doctor of Philosophy in Tourism and Hotel Management.

The Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management has national reputation for excellence in teaching and learning, offering a culture of a comfortable learning atmosphere. The faculty offers a comprehensive range of high-quality programs meeting the needs of the modern tourism and hotel industry while still understanding the importance of the preservation of local culture and tradition. The faculty is committed to fostering positive public relations for Thai culture and traditions while providing academic services for the development of sustainable tourism. The faculty is highly respected by five star hotels and many tourist organizations.

Academic TimeLine (Briefly)

B.E.2544 (2001)

  • The first class started with 185 students.
  • The number of activated lecturers and staff-members was 11 people.
  • Ajarn Thanet Srisatit, the founder, was assigned an acting dean of “An Establishment project of Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management”. Later, the project had been officially approved and renamed “Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management” by Mahasarakham University Council at a meeting no.10/2004 on October 29th, 2004, before a university’s order was given to assign Ajarn Thanet Srisatit the dean of Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management on November 10th, 2004.

B.E.2547 (2004)

  • Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management formally commenced a Bachelor of Arts Program in Tourism and Hotel Management Program (four-year program).
  • Total number of the student was 1,096.
  • There were 16 full-time lecturers and 14 supportive staffs.
  • There were 116 students graduated as the first generation (Chaba gen.1).

B.E. 2549 (2006)

  • A new program was drafted and known as “Bachelor of Arts Program in Tourism and Hotel Management (International Program/a revised program B.E.2549)”. This program was formally approved by Mahasarakham University Council on June 29th, 2006 and offered to the first group of 13 students in 2007. On the same date, a master degree in Tourism and Hotel Management Program (a new program B.E 2550) was also drafted and approved by the university council.

B.E. 2549 - 2550 (2006 - 2007)

  • A Bachelor of Arts Program in Tourism and Hotel Management Program (B.E. 2544) was developed and approved by Mahasarakham University Council on March 30th, 2007.

B.E. 2007 (2007)

  • A new program, a Doctor of Philosophy Program in Tourism and Hotel Management Program (a new program B.E. 2550), was drafted and approved by the university council.  Finally on May 25th, 2007, two graduate programs were formally offered to 25 graduate students.

B.E. 2551 (2008)

  • Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management officially offered 2 bachelor programs as follows:
    Bachelor of Arts Program in Tourism and Hotel Management Program (a revised program B.E. 2550)Bachelor Arts Program in Tourism and Hotel Management (International Program) (a new program B.E. 2549) and 2 graduate programs as follows: Master Arts Program in Tourism and Hotel Management Program (a new program B.E.2549)Doctoral Arts Program in Tourism and Hotel Management Program (a new program B.E.2550)There were totally 2,215 students including 2,158 undergraduate students and 57 graduate students.There were totally 55 staff-members including 36 full-time lecturers and 19 supportive staffs.

B.E. 2555 (2012)

  • Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management officially revised and offered 3 bachelor programs, 1 master program, and 1 doctoral program as follows:Bachelor of Arts in Tourism ManagementBachelor of Arts in Hotel ManagementBachelor of Arts in International Tourism Management (English Program)Master of Arts in Tourism and Hotel ManagementDoctoral of Philosophy Program in Tourism and Hotel Management
